Job description
The Timing Design Engineer at Apple will play a crucial role in the PHY design effort, collaborating with various teams to deliver high-quality designs. This position focuses on timing closure and physical design aspects of SoC design. The engineer will innovate timing constraints and flows to ensure successful timing analysis. Strong communication skills are essential as the role involves interfacing with multiple groups within the organization.
Requirements
- BS degree in a technical discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of meaningful experience in ASIC design
- At least 5+ years of experience in writing ASIC timing constraints and timing closure
- Expertise in STA tools such as Primetime
- Knowledge of timing corners/modes, process variations, and signal integrity issues
- Hands-on experience in timing/SDC constraints generation and management
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Tcl and Perl
- Familiarity with synthesis, DFT, and backend related methodology and tools
- Strong communication skills
Responsibilities
- Oversee timing sign-off and STA flow development
- Own IP and block level timing constraints for both regular and custom timing requirements
- Interact closely with RTL designers to understand design intent and clock structure
- Collaborate with CAD teams to develop and understand flow
- Work with the Physical design team to close and sign-off timing
- Innovate timing constraints and flow to facilitate timing closure
- Verify timing constraints and address any potential pessimism in timing analysis
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
