Job description

The Machine Intelligence, Neural Design (MIND) team at Apple is focused on HW/SW co-design for efficient inference, leveraging expertise in ML, computer vision, and energy efficiency. They are looking for a hands-on Machine Learning Engineer to enhance the data and evaluation lifecycle of production models. The role involves designing high-performance data processing pipelines, ensuring data quality, and performing failure analysis on models. The engineer will also innovate across the ML production pipeline, bridging hardware, software, and modeling.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in a technical or quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in working with unstructured data, specifically video and audio signals.
  • Proficiency with Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
  • Experience with shipping ML features and products.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in analyzing complex problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with large scale training ML models including deep learning based models.
  • Experience with GPU-based distributed training and evaluation.
  • Background in Computer Vision, Audio, and Natural Language Processing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines using tools like Spark and Airflow.
  • Optimize existing pipelines for efficiency, latency, and cost.
  • Research and implement advanced data augmentation techniques to address data scarcity.
  • Implement data observability and automated data validation checks.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on production model failures.
  • Collaborate with other machine learning engineers to productize models.
  • Implement robust evaluation frameworks for model performance monitoring.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
