Job description

This role involves working on frontier foundation models that enhance intelligent experiences at Apple. The team focuses on the entire training lifecycle, including pre-training and mid-training approaches tailored for Apple silicon. The position emphasizes solving complex problems in deep learning, particularly in vision-language modeling and image generation. Candidates will collaborate with a talented team to apply deep learning techniques to real-world applications, ultimately impacting billions of users.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in deep learning with a publication record in relevant conferences.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python and one of the deep learning toolkits such as JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • PhD or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience training or adapting vision-language models.
  • Experience with image or video generation or editing.
  • Knowledge of reinforcement learning and on-policy distillation.

Responsibilities

  • Work on pre-training and mid-training approaches for foundation models.
  • Develop data pipelines and evaluation suites for visual understanding and generation at scale.
  • Identify and develop novel applications of deep learning in Apple products.
  • Collaborate with a close-knit team of engineers and scientists to tackle challenging problems.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
