Job description

Apple's Camera Algorithm team is seeking engineers and researchers to develop next-generation image capture, processing, and rendering algorithms for Apple product cameras. The team focuses on improving image and video quality while leveraging Apple silicon technologies. As part of this interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with various groups to deliver innovative consumer imaging solutions. The role emphasizes creativity and independence in solving engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • MS degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Track record of developing image processing algorithms such as auto white balance and tone mapping.
  • Validated coding skills in Python or MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with a digital camera image processing pipeline and the Image Signal Processor (ISP).
  • Understanding of image quality metrics and subjective evaluations.
  • Proven knowledge of HDR encoding standards.
  • Prior experience with professional video content postproduction and color grading workflows.
  • Curiosity about vision science and/or color science.
  • Programming skills in C/C++.
  • Exposure to machine learning algorithms.
  • Passion for photography and videography.

Responsibilities

  • Develop capture side tone mapping algorithms to enhance the creative look of videos captured with Apple cameras.
  • Drive algorithm development from initial idea and proof of concept through on-device implementation.
  • Conduct field testing and validation of algorithms to ensure high-quality output.
  • Collaborate with silicon design, camera hardware, and camera software teams to deliver industry-leading imaging solutions.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
