Job description

The AI, Search & Knowledge Platforms team at Apple is focused on building advanced AI and search systems that enhance user experiences across various applications like Siri and iMessage. This role involves conducting large-scale machine learning and deep learning research to improve Open Domain Question Answering and Summarization. The candidate will develop and fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs) to better understand user queries and synthesize information. Collaboration with researchers and data scientists is essential to translate cutting-edge AI research into production-ready technologies.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of machine learning experience in search, natural language processing, or conversational AI.
  • Proven experience in LLM post-training techniques such as SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, and Reward Modeling.
  • Hands-on experience in building reinforcement learning pipelines and training agents.
  • MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field with a focus on reinforcement learning.
  • Deep expertise in reinforcement learning-based post-training on LLM models.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced reinforcement learning technologies for generative models.
  • Drive cross-functional technical initiatives and collaborate with various teams.
  • Develop novel reinforcement learning algorithms and enhance existing ones.
  • Stay updated with the latest reinforcement learning research and integrate best practices.
  • Manage the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle including algorithm design, data collection, model training, evaluation, and deployment.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
