Job description

The Core OS software team is seeking a talented software engineer for the Embedded Debug Tools team. This role focuses on developing scalable software solutions to enhance the debugging process for Apple's silicon and low-level software. The engineer will work closely with hardware architecture and software teams to identify requirements and develop future silicon debug solutions. This position offers the opportunity to significantly impact the success of Apple's iOS, watchOS, and macOS products.

Requirements

  • Proficient in C/C++ and Python
  • Experience working with low-level software and hardware interaction
  • Knowledge of hardware architecture including SoCs, CPU, and GPU
  • Experience with SWD/JTAG and other debuggers
  • Understanding of operating system fundamentals
  • Knowledge of ARM's DAP architecture and JTAG
  • Demonstrated creative, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop scalable software solutions to improve the debugging process.
  • Identify insufficiencies in the debugger and provide solutions for low-level software development.
  • Collaborate with peers in hardware architecture, emulation, and software to identify requirements.
  • Participate in all development phases from architecture to silicon bring-up.
  • Triage silicon and debugger interactions to identify potential hardware bugs or insufficiencies.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
