Job description

The CPU Processor Performance Verification Engineer will play a crucial role in chip design, focusing on silicon performance verification, correlation, characterization, and tuning for CPUs. This position involves collaboration with architects, RTL designers, and software developers to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize software. The engineer will develop test plans, improve architectural performance models, and debug performance issues on silicon. The role is essential for ensuring high-quality performance features in Apple's innovative products.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in performance modeling, processor verification, or RTL design.
  • Knowledge of digital logic design, CPU architecture, and microarchitecture.
  • Proficiency in developing performance test plans and writing/debugging assembly tests.
  • Programming skills in assembly, C/C++, Verilog, System Verilog, or scripting.
  • Experience in benchmark and workload analysis and CPU performance profiling.
  • Familiarity with compiler techniques and OS for performance optimization.
  • Knowledge in developing instruction profiling tools on silicon.
  • Experience in performance modeling for advanced CPU designs.
  • Experience in silicon validation.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with architects and RTL designers to verify performance features of the design.
  • Collaborate with software and application developers to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Develop test plans and test infrastructure/tools for performance tuning and verification.
  • Improve and maintain the architectural performance models.
  • Develop tests in assembly, C/C++, or vectors for debugging and correlation.
  • Create C or Verilog-based checkers for verifying performance features.
  • Develop coverage monitors and analyze coverage for performance features.
  • Debug performance issues and conduct performance tuning on silicon.
  • Benchmark and compare CPU performance across silicon, OS, and compiler versions.
  • Present CPU performance results to multi-functional teams.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
