As an Embedded Firmware Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in the embedded 5G/4G/multimode cellular firmware development within a silicon design group. This position focuses on designing and implementing algorithms that meet strict real-time deadlines while utilizing AI/ML principles to enhance productivity. You will work in a dynamic, multi-functional environment, contributing to the creation of powerful cellular SoCs. Your expertise will help drive innovation and improve the overall firmware development process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Understanding of bare metal control firmware design and implementation.
- Familiarity with the differences between software platform design and constrained firmware environments.
- Experience in leading feature delivery for firmware/software life cycles.
- Knowledge of system-level feature architecture.
- Proficiency in C and C++, along with compilers and source code control tools.
- Understanding of computer architecture, particularly HW/SW interfaces of high-speed communication subsystems.
- Experience with mainstream OS application-level development and scripting in Python or Perl.
- Foundational knowledge in Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms.
- Theoretical understanding of AI/ML algorithm implementation and mathematical foundations.
- Knowledge of design for asymmetric multiprocessing solutions.
- Understanding of 5G and 4G 3GPP protocols.
- Familiarity with wireless communications.
- Understanding of silicon prototyping, emulation systems, and virtual platforms.
- Knowledge of memory-constrained Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and concurrent programming.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement algorithms using minimal memory and cycles with real-time deadlines.
- Utilize AI/ML as a tool for improved productivity in firmware development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in cellular SoC design.
- Debate ideas openly and adapt to evolving requirements in a dynamic environment.
- Architect system-level features and lead the delivery of firmware solutions.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
