Job description
This role is focused on developing and validating architectural models for advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) within Apple's Silicon Technologies group. The team is responsible for ensuring that Apple products can efficiently handle complex tasks through innovative hardware solutions. Engineers will work on pre-silicon functional and performance modeling, contributing to the design of low power GPUs. Collaboration across functional teams is essential to drive best practices in hardware and software solutions.
Requirements
- Minimum of BS degree and 10 years of relevant experience
- Experience in C++ programming
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, or Perl
- Knowledge of GPU, CPU, or SIMD architectures
- Background in GPU graphics pipeline
- Background in CPU or GPU memory hierarchies
- Background in advanced CPU architecture and micro-architecture
- Understanding of GP-GPU compute
- Experience with the bring-up and debug of complex systems and micro-architectures
- Experience with turning architectural and micro-architectural specifications into executable C++ models
- Experience in performance analysis and debug
- Experience with HDLs, Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL
Responsibilities
- Drive the development, validation, and verification of advanced GPU designs and architectures
- Develop bit-accurate architectural models for hardware/software co-validation
- Create timing-accurate architectural and micro-architectural models for performance validation and correlation
- Triage regression failures and debug failures to identify root causes
- Implement coding and modeling best practices and improve modeling infrastructure
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop best practice hardware and software solutions
- Present results and recommendations while working closely with various functional teams and organizations
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
