Job description

This role is part of the Hardware Technology CAD team, focusing on designing next-generation, high-performance, power-efficient system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. The team is responsible for developing flows, tools, and methodologies that enhance design productivity and performance. Engineers will collaborate with design teams and tool vendors to tackle physical design challenges and improve power, performance, and area (PPA). The position also involves leveraging GenAI tools to optimize design processes and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Good understanding of VLSI and Physical Design basics through coursework or internships.
  • Knowledge of Tcl, Python, or Perl scripting languages.
  • Exposure to CAD tools, CAD flow, or physical design methodology.
  • Understanding of analysis involved in Physical Design, including extraction, timing, noise, and physical verification.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and engage with cross-functional teams to address key physical design challenges.
  • Develop innovative solutions in the physical design and optimization space.
  • Support implementation flows for multiple projects and design teams.
  • Maintain custom CAD tools for implementation and signoff.
  • Create flows to enable successful deployment of new technology nodes.
  • Develop tools and methodologies for best-in-class PPA and productivity, including ML-based solutions.
  • Leverage GenAI tools to develop applications that improve design team productivity.
  • Collaborate with teams such as physical design verification, RC extraction, and static timing analysis.
  • Work directly with EDA tool vendors to resolve tool issues and identify areas for improvement.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
