Job description

As a member of the CAD team, you will play a crucial role in architecting, developing, maintaining, and improving physical design verification flows for Apple's next-generation processors and system-on-chip designs. You will collaborate closely with custom digital, analog, mixed-signal design, physical design, and chip integration teams to ensure seamless chip design processes. This position requires a strong understanding of design rule checks and layout versus schematic runsets, as well as opportunities to develop machine learning-based automations. Your work will directly contribute to the technology that powers Apple devices.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge in Calibre, ICV, or Pegasus runset coding.
  • Knowledge of machine learning or large language models is a plus.
  • Knowledge of parasitic extraction, SKILL coding, and place and route tools is a plus.
  • Previous industry experience in silicon chip design flows.
  • IP/SOC level physical design verification debug experience in various technology nodes.
  • Scripting skills in programming languages such as Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell, Makefile, or C.
  • Experience with flow automation and development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, improve, and maintain various aspects of physical verification flow and methodology.
  • Coordinate the effort of validating flows and improving custom checks and data generation.
  • Work with the design and physical design teams to facilitate the chip design process.
  • Code custom physical design verification rule decks such as electrical rule checks and programmable electrical rule checks.
  • Collaborate with tool vendors and foundries for performance enhancements of process design kits.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
