Job description

This role focuses on improving physical synthesis techniques for Apple's processors, including CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs. The position involves developing and supporting the implementation flow from RTL through GDS signoff. The expert will collaborate closely with design teams to create methodologies and tools that achieve significant performance, power, and area (PPA) improvements. The role also includes working with EDA vendors to shape tool roadmaps and develop custom solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with TCL, Python, or Perl scripting languages.
  • Experience with industry standard synthesis tools such as Fusion Compiler or Genus.
  • Experience working with CAD tools and flow.
  • Experience in CAD flow or front-end methodology development.
  • Experience with low power implementation flows (UPF) is a plus.
  • Experience with logical equivalence tools such as Conformal LEC and/or Formality is a plus.
  • Experience in linting, static timing analysis, low power checks (UPF), or place and route tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the synthesis challenges that matter most to Apple Silicon.
  • Develop innovative scripts, flows, and automation to improve physical synthesis techniques.
  • Partner closely with design teams to define optimal methodologies and tools for their challenges.
  • Run full validation flows from RTL through place-and-route and timing signoff to demonstrate PPA improvements.
  • Work directly with EDA vendors to shape tool roadmaps and build custom solutions.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
