The Optical Network Engineer role at Google Global Infrastructure focuses on enhancing and maintaining Google's extensive network that serves millions of users worldwide. As part of the Network Engineering team, you will directly influence design and feature improvements to ensure network reliability and efficiency. The position involves engaging with both internal teams and external vendors to operationalize scalable platforms. You will also be responsible for developing tools and processes to automate network management and operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience with one or more optical technologies such as long-haul DWDM systems.
- Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
- Experience in optical propagation modeling, utilizing analytical and numerical methods for fiber-optic system design.
Responsibilities
- Develop production tooling to simulate performance of the optical network.
- Define requirements and identify technologies for scaling our transport network in a cost-efficient and operationally streamlined manner.
- Engage with external vendors and internal teams to operationalize stable, scalable platforms.
- Develop tools and processes for automation of network management and operations.
