Job description

The Senior Product Design Architect role at Google involves working within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team to design and prototype new consumer products. The Advanced Architecture team focuses on developing innovative designs and manufacturing techniques for Pixel devices, integrating cutting-edge technology and materials. The role requires collaboration with various teams, including Product Management and Industrial Design, to define new products and address engineering challenges. This position is crucial for laying the groundwork for future Pixel products and enhancing user experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, product design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.
  • 5 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
  • Experience with the design of plastic and metal components, printed circuit boards/flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs/FPCBs), and acoustics used in consumer electronic products.

Responsibilities

  • Design new consumer products in consultation with structural and thermal simulation teams to deliver reliable product layouts.
  • Select materials and finishes to balance product requirements such as cost, reliability, and antenna performance.
  • Prototype design options to converge on an implementation for new products.
  • Advocate for new technology and materials development that offer benefits to future product layouts.
  • Communicate updates to leadership throughout the organization and build consensus around paths forward, promoting cross-functional teams on the product and solving technical problems.
