The Data Center Plant Engineer for Protection Relay Networks at Google is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of complex electrical systems within data centers. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards while optimizing efficiency and reducing costs. The engineer will work closely with senior technicians and lead efforts to improve processes related to critical equipment operation. The position is part of a team that empowers Google customers through advanced AI and infrastructure capabilities.
Requirements
- An Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
- At least 9 years of experience in protection relay within an industrial or commercial electrical environment.
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs of equipment and work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors.
- A Bachelor's or advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio is preferred.
- Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and communication protocols used in protection applications is preferred.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity aspects of protection and control systems is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to test, validate, improve, and certify new processes and procedures for critical complex equipment operation.
- Perform compliance activities for data centers and analyze compliance results globally.
- Monitor data center systems operations and control site activities to minimize risk.
- Ensure all sites follow facility, maintenance, and standard programs globally.
- Develop strategies to minimize operational costs, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.
