Job description

This position is for a lead engineer on the Amazon EC2 VPC Packet Pipeline team in San Diego, CA, focusing on high-performance virtualized networking. Candidates should have a strong background in kernel or embedded C development and a passion for systems software engineering. Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
  • Experience as a mentor or tech lead for an engineering team
  • 1+ years of experience leading a team in terms of architecture and mentoring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience developing in C or C++
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms and data structures
  • Linux operating system knowledge and development experience
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP
  • Kernel or embedded development experience, particularly with the Linux kernel
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle
  • Experience influencing software engineering best practices within a team
  • Scripting experience in Ruby or Python

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small engineering team and mentor junior engineers while ensuring proper development practices are followed.
  • Work hands-on with the engineering team to manage day-to-day development activities.
  • Lead architecture decisions and participate in design reviews, code reviews, and implementation.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology.
  • Communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements and describe software product features.
