Job description

The Hardware Safety Compliance Engineer at Amazon Lab126 is responsible for ensuring that products meet safety standards and regulations. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle to identify and mitigate risks. The engineer will also engage with regulatory bodies and contribute to setting new industry safety standards. The team is dedicated to enabling safe and compliant products for customers worldwide.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

Responsibilities

  • Drive a standardized and harmonized approach to Safety Compliance across Amazon’s suite of products
  • Support junior compliance engineers and design teams on safety compliance issues and failures
  • Determine the applicable regulations, standards, and safety requirements for new and existing products
  • Communicate technical safety and compliance requirements to design teams, operations, and contract manufacturers
  • Participate in electrical and mechanical system design reviews to ensure that safety mitigations are properly implemented
  • Engage with senior Amazon leaders to represent compliance-related topics
  • Direct compliance testing and certification at external labs
  • Review compliance evaluations for accuracy
  • Contribute to international expansion and certification strategies
  • Oversee all aspects of hardware compliance for a device when required
  • Stay abreast of industry activities by participating in standards development committees or other industry organizations relevant to Lab126
