Job description

The Amazon Web Services Open Data Analytics organization is seeking an experienced engineer to join the core engines and datalake team. This role focuses on enhancing the performance and scalability of query engines and open table formats like Apache Iceberg, Hudi, and Delta. The engineer will collaborate closely with open-source communities to drive innovations and contribute to the development of large-scale analytics solutions. The position emphasizes technical direction, design influence, and mentoring within a diverse and inclusive team culture.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • 3+ years of programming experience using a modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C#
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and testing
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience in developing and operating distributed systems or applications at large scale
  • Experience working on open table formats or query engines is a huge plus
  • Experience contributing to open source code bases and collaborating with open source communities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize core components of query engines and open table formats to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Design and implement innovative solutions to improve feature capabilities and security in table format integrations.
  • Collaborate with the open-source community, contributing to discussions and driving improvements.
  • Ensure data consistency and durability while achieving breakthrough performance for large-scale data lake workloads.
  • Improve the organization's automation and testing capabilities.
  • Manage complex deliverables and research projects with deadlines.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding best practices.
  • Serve as a point of contact for challenging customer issues related to data lake workloads and query engines.
