Job description

The Software Development Engineer role on the EBS Snapshots team involves designing, building, and operating distributed services that manage data operations at AWS scale. This team is crucial for AWS infrastructure, supporting features like EC2 instance launches and disaster recovery. Engineers will have the opportunity to tackle complex challenges and collaborate across teams to deliver impactful solutions. The role emphasizes ownership, continuous learning, and a welcoming team culture.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and code reviews
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate distributed services that handle data operations at AWS scale across multiple regions
  • Own features end-to-end from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and launch
  • Contribute to system architecture decisions, balancing trade-offs between performance, availability, durability, and cost
  • Collaborate with engineers across multiple teams to deliver cross-service integrations and platform improvements
  • Drive improvements including performance optimizations, infrastructure modernization, and technical debt reduction
  • Write and review design documents, participate in code reviews, and raise the bar for engineering quality
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a team culture of continuous learning and improvement

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
