This role is for an SDE-II in the Transactional Services organization, focusing on building foundational distributed systems for AWS. The team specializes in high-performance, strongly consistent data systems that handle millions of writes per second. You will work closely with Senior and Principal Engineers, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the team's technical growth. The position involves end-to-end ownership of software projects, from design to production support.
Requirements

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and code reviews
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems
- Experience debugging, profiling, and implementing best software engineering practices in large-scale systems
Responsibilities
- Design and build highly available, low-latency distributed log and database systems for AWS's critical services.
- Own end-to-end delivery of software projects from requirements through design, implementation, deployment, and production support.
- Drive improvements to security, reliability, durability, and performance across multiple foundational services.
- Lead and contribute to multi-year, cross-team migration and integration efforts with high-profile partner teams.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and pairing sessions.
- Establish and evolve engineering best practices and operational processes for the team.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
