Job description

AWS is seeking a Data Center Civil Engineer to join its design team in Herndon, VA. This role involves leading Civil Engineering designs for Amazon Data Centers and working with a diverse team of Architects, Engineers, and Designers. The position focuses on solving large-scale implementation issues and providing technical design guidance. Requirements

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Professional Engineering license or plan for acquiring within 12 months of start date
  • 3+ years of commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial site-civil design experience with work in site development, grading, paving, storm water, and utility design
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu

Responsibilities

  • Manage external civil design consultants through the Data Center design and construction process
  • Review designs for site layout, grading, power substations, storm water, and utilities
  • Coordinate with internal and external architectural, structural, and MEP design engineers
  • Develop preliminary site layout concepts using Civil 3D, incorporating grading, utilities, and circulation patterns
  • Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners
  • Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction
  • Develop and maintain design standards, design prototypes, and template specifications related to site design for Data Centers
  • Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects, including Data Centers and special program facilities
  • Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously and foresee internal Technical Program Manager’s expectations regarding project-specific cost and schedule variables
  • Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction
