Job description

The Senior Software Engineer role in the Microsoft Azure Storage team focuses on distributed storage systems, ensuring high availability and consistent performance. The team is responsible for managing Azure Managed Disks, which are critical for Azure Virtual Machines and cloud services. Candidates will analyze complex interactions between components and debug issues at various levels. This position offers the opportunity to make impactful changes in a rapidly evolving environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead investigation and analysis of complex distributed systems, tracing causation of faults.
  • Identify bottlenecks or load concentration, acting independently to mitigate issues while defining automated algorithms to distribute load more effectively.
  • Work across teams to establish robust algorithms and heuristics for degraded hardware or recurring events.
  • Determine and communicate patterns for systemic improvement or efficient identification of known issues.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers regarding opportunities to leverage Storage technologies.
  • Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and monitoring system/product/service for degradation.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to trends that improve availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance.
