Job description
As a Design Engineer at Fauna Robotics, you will be responsible for the detailed design and development of mechanical components and assemblies, focusing on creating beautiful and functional parts. This role involves extensive collaboration with industrial design, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturability. You will lead the tooling development process and manage relationships with overseas vendors. The team is dedicated to making robotics accessible and delightful for everyday life.
Requirements
- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Experience in 3D CAD, specifically Onshape
- Demonstrated experience designing injection molded parts for production, including DFM analysis and GD&T
- Direct experience managing tooling development with overseas vendors
- Strong 2D drawing skills with working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience in robotics design, automation systems development, or related product development
- Familiarity with additional manufacturing processes such as die casting, CNC machining, and sheet metal
Responsibilities
- Own detailed 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation for mechanical components and assemblies in Onshape
- Design parts across a range of manufacturing processes with a primary focus on injection molding and CNC machining
- Lead DFM reviews for injection molded parts, identifying and resolving issues related to design
- Manage the tooling development process end-to-end, including vendor selection and tool design review
- Coordinate with supply chain on tooling lead times, costs, and production readiness
- Work closely with industrial designers to translate aesthetic intent into manufacturable geometry
- Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams to develop inspection criteria for molded parts
- Support tolerance stack-up analysis and fit/function verification during builds
