This role is for a Member of Technical Staff focused on building a data platform that supports Microsoft's AI initiatives. The team is dedicated to designing distributed systems that handle massive datasets efficiently, transforming raw data into valuable insights for AI training and evaluation. Candidates should be passionate about solving complex problems in stream processing and lakehouse architecture. The position requires a strong understanding of distributed systems and a commitment to treating data infrastructure as a product.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in the same fields AND 4+ years experience OR equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in Python, Scala, Java, or Go.
- Demonstrated technical understanding of massive-scale compute engines such as Apache Spark, Flink, Ray, Trino, or Snowflake.
- Experience architecting Lakehouse environments at scale using Delta Lake, Iceberg, or Hudi.
- Strong background in streaming technologies such as Kafka, Azure EventHubs, or Pulsar.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the underlying frameworks based on Spark/Databricks for efficient data processing.
- Modernize the data stack by transitioning to event-driven architectures.
- Architect high-throughput pipelines for processing complex, non-tabular data.
- Engineer telemetry systems to capture user interactions with Copilot for model evaluation.
- Define and deploy all resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methods.
