Job description

The Senior Software Engineer for Hadoop Infrastructure at Bloomberg will work within a dedicated team focused on managing large-scale distributed systems. This role involves leveraging the open-source Apache Hadoop platform to support data applications across the organization. The engineer will be responsible for improving user experience and optimizing the usability, reliability, and scalability of Hadoop services. Requirements

  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience working with an object-oriented programming language, specifically Java.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field of study, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in the Hadoop ecosystem and related technologies, including HBase, Hive, HDFS, and Spark.
  • Knowledge of modern development methodologies and tools such as Jenkins, Maven, and Jira.
  • Solid understanding of the Linux operating system, shell scripting, and OS troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Advance how tenants from multiple product domains leverage Hadoop Infrastructure services to meet their goals.
  • Provide and improve capabilities to migrate and support a massive data and compute footprint to newer versions.
  • Enhance the user experience for tenants interacting with underlying infrastructure frameworks.
  • Understand and improve the usability, reliability, and scalability of open-source Apache Hadoop services.
