The Senior Software Engineer role focuses on data governance and machine learning within Bloomberg's Data Services team. This team is responsible for building platforms that enhance data understanding, classification, and governance at scale. The position requires a hands-on engineer who will apply machine learning and AI techniques to address real-world data governance challenges. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to improve data quality and compliance across the organization.

• 5+ years of experience building and leveraging data governance tools and platforms.
• 5+ years of experience using Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or Scala.
• Familiarity with AI driven data catalogs or metadata platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Atlan, or Purview.
• Hands-on experience applying ML or NLP techniques in production, including classification, clustering, and named entity recognition.
• Solid understanding of data governance concepts, including metadata, lineage, and data cataloging.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and distributed systems.

• Proactively drive the vision for Data Classification, Inventory, and Catalog across multiple business areas.
• Leverage data governance tools and configure them for self-service use by users.
• Design, build, and maintain ML-powered services and pipelines for automated data classification and tagging.
• Develop integrations with metadata catalogs and data quality tools to enrich governance metadata.
• Apply ML and AI techniques to detect sensitive data and support entity resolution.
• Collaborate with data stewards and governance leads to translate business requirements into scalable solutions.
• Influence the architecture and evolution of AI-enabled governance tooling.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Engineers, and Software Engineers to meet business needs.
• Stay updated with market trends and evaluate new tools for future needs.
