Job description

The Senior Substation Engineer - Physical Design role at Jacobs focuses on supporting utility and developer clients in the energy sector. This position involves working closely with regional and global Transmission & Distribution teams to deliver Substation Physical design deliverables for utility upgrades. The successful candidate will play a key role in interfacing with clients and mentoring team members while contributing to the energy transition portfolio. This role requires a strong technical background in substation design and a commitment to enhancing safety, reliability, and sustainability in the utility landscape.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within the United States or ability to obtain additional PE licenses if needed.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct Substation Physical design experience with utility or consulting organization.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of High Voltage substation components.
  • Prior experience in development of substation physical designs from conceptual through the development of IFC drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with utility/developer clients to develop Substation Physical design deliverables.
  • Provide engineering overview, expertise, and direction while acting as an independent technical advisor.
  • Mentor team members across North America and globally.
  • Support the sales and proposal preparation process for new contracts.
  • Perform project scoping, prepare task orders, and conduct design reviews of work by others.
