Job description
The Geotechnical Engineer position at Jacobs in Reston, Virginia, focuses on performing and overseeing geotechnical field explorations and construction monitoring. Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required.
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering is required.
- 1-3 years of experience on geotechnical projects is required.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel for work is necessary.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Computer skills including CADD and Microsoft Office are required.
- A driver’s license and reliable vehicle will be required.
Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee geotechnical field explorations, including test borings and rock coring.
- Conduct construction monitoring of earth retaining structures and deep foundations.
- Prepare boring logs and subsurface profiles.
- Design shallow and deep foundations and earth-retaining structures.
- Perform liquefaction and consolidation settlement analyses.
- Utilize Finite Element modeling using PLAXIS and/or FLAC.
- Develop geotechnical reports and pavement design.
- Design ground improvement techniques including deep soil mixing.
- Develop contract documents including drawings and specifications.
- Work in collaborative multi-disciplinary teams from across North America.
