Job description

The Roadway Engineer position at Jacobs is focused on supporting highway-related infrastructure projects across Maryland. The role is part of the Baltimore-based Transportation team, which emphasizes multi-disciplinary transportation projects aimed at improving highways, roadways, and interchanges. The engineer will leverage strong technical and design management skills to contribute to both preliminary and final design phases. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with various stakeholders and ensure compliance with state and local standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Previous professional project experience in the highway/roadway transportation sector, ideally supporting large infrastructure programs in Maryland
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in Maryland
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads Designer
  • Demonstrated track record of roadway design for state-level agencies
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, and Maryland-specific standards

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise across all aspects of highway and roadway design within Maryland.
  • Prepare roadway designs using MDOT SHA, MDTA, and local jurisdiction standards.
  • Develop plans from conceptual through final design including geometrics and maintenance of traffic.
  • Develop 3D models that comply with MDOT SHA and other agency design standards.
  • Prepare specifications, engineer's estimates, bid packages, and supporting engineering reports.
  • Coordinate daily with multi-discipline teams including drainage, structures, and traffic.
  • Support plan quality reviews and participate in value engineering studies.
  • Lead and coordinate work of design engineers and technicians.
