Job description

The Senior Protection & Controls (P&C) Engineer role at Jacobs focuses on supporting utility and developer clients in the energy sector as they navigate the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization. This position involves collaborating with regional and global Transmission & Distribution teams to deliver design deliverables for utility upgrades, including substations and offshore wind facilities. The successful candidate will mentor team members and engage in client interactions to ensure high-quality project delivery. This role is essential in driving the energy transition portfolio forward.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within the United States with the ability to obtain additional PE licenses if needed.
  • At least 10 years of direct protection and controls design experience with a utility or consulting organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of various protection philosophies and relaying functions applicable to High-Voltage substations.
  • Prior experience in the development of substation protection and control designs, including various schematics and layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Interface directly with utility and developer clients on P&C methodologies and design deliverables.
  • Develop P&C deliverables independently and ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Mentor and develop team members across North America and globally.
  • Support the sales and proposal preparation process for new contracts.
  • Perform QA/QC of design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications for protection and controls designs.
