Job description

The Electrical Engineer position at Jacobs focuses on designing large-scale electric power systems, including power generation plants and substations. The role requires strong technical expertise and leadership to guide utility clients through the evolving energy landscape. The engineer will work within the energy and power team, providing advisory and design solutions for energy project development. Building relationships with clients and delivering innovative solutions are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering with a preference for Power Systems emphasis.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in design, consulting, or operations in the energy field.
  • Proven experience in complex energy projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong proficiency in power system analysis software and design tools.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power studies and develop designs for large-scale behind-the-meter power generation projects.
  • Manage and oversee the execution of power system studies and engineering design of electric power systems.
  • Specify project performance and design requirements for substations and utility distribution networks.
  • Execute and lead power system studies using modeling software like SKM Power Tools or ETAP.
  • Conduct utility master planning and strategic investment planning.
  • Lead the development of long-term utility infrastructure plans.
  • Conduct resiliency studies to assess system vulnerabilities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their technical training.
  • Prepare and review high-quality technical reports and proposals.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes impacting utility planning.
