Job description

The Substation Physical/P&C Engineer role at Jacobs focuses on supporting utility and developer clients in the energy sector. This position involves working closely with regional and global Transmission & Distribution teams to tackle challenges related to decarbonization and utility modernization. The engineer will be responsible for developing design deliverables for various substation projects, including greenfield and brownfield substations. Additionally, the role includes mentoring team members and engaging with professional societies to promote company services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within the United States.
  • Minimum of 8 years of direct Substation Physical/Protection & Controls design experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of protection philosophies and relaying functions applicable to High-Voltage substations.
  • Familiarity with grounding system design and SCADA communication design for substation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Interface directly with utility and developer clients on Substation Physical and P&C methodologies.
  • Develop design deliverables for utility upgrades, including various types of substations and offshore wind facilities.
  • Provide engineering overview and direction while acting as an independent technical advisor.
  • Mentor team members across North America and globally.
  • Perform project scoping, prepare task orders, and conduct design reviews of work by others.
