Job description
The HV Underground Transmission Engineer role at Jacobs focuses on supporting and leading projects related to underground and subsea cable technology in the energy sector. The successful candidate will leverage their technical knowledge in high voltage applications to contribute to business development and proposal support. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and/or subsea cable design and installation.
- Ability to work with cable design software such as CYMCAP.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.
- Experience working with major global cable OEMs.
- Ability and willingness to travel within North America.
Responsibilities
- Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review.
- Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
- Prepare specifications, power cable route specifications, and progress reports.
- Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects.
- Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
- Support factory inspections and testing (FAT).
- Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, and EMF calculations.
- Perform design reviews and verification of design.
- Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction.
