Job description
The Transmission Planning/Studies Engineer role at Jacobs focuses on supporting and leading projects related to transmission grids, particularly in the context of decarbonization and energy transition. The engineer will collaborate with regional and global power systems teams, working closely with utility clients in the Northeast US. This position requires a strong technical background in transmission planning and bulk system studies, as well as experience with relevant standards and processes. The role offers flexibility in location, with a preference for candidates in major Northeast cities.
Requirements
- An advanced degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering from a recognized institution is required.
- A minimum of 4 years of direct experience with power system studies using PSS/E, TARA, and/or PSCAD is necessary.
- Candidates must have a strong background with at least one of the following system operators: ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, or IESO.
- Up-to-date knowledge and experience with NERC, FERC, and NPCC reliability standards is essential.
- Candidates should possess strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of steady-state and transient power system studies.
- Participate in meetings with utilities as part of project delivery or business development.
- Lead or support projects throughout the entire lifecycle, from technical bid/proposal to execution and close-out.
- Work closely with team members across North America and globally.
- Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and stay updated with the latest standards and requirements.
