The Principal Substation Engineer will play a key role in Jacobs' Energy & Power Group, focusing on the design and development of substation deliverables for utility upgrades. This position requires close collaboration with regional and global Transmission & Distribution teams to support utility and developer clients. The engineer will be responsible for mentoring team members and ensuring high-quality delivery of services. The role also involves interfacing with clients to understand their standards and requirements while managing project timelines and budgets.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within the United States.
- Minimum 12 years of direct Substation design experience with a utility or consulting organization.
- Advanced knowledge of High Voltage substation components.
- Prior experience in development of substation designs from conceptual through to IFC drawings.
- Familiarity with grounding system design and lighting protection designs for substations.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop Substation design deliverables for utility upgrades including greenfield/brownfield and AIS/GIS substations.
- Interface directly with utility and developer clients to understand their standards and provide feedback.
- Mentor team members across North America and globally.
- Support the sales and proposal preparation process for new contracts.
- Perform project scoping, prepare task orders, and review work by others.
- Conduct field visits and walk-downs as required for client projects.
- Act as an independent technical advisor representing owner's interests.
