Job description

The Principal Substation Engineer will work within Jacobs' Energy & Power Group, focusing on the design and development of substation deliverables for utility upgrades. This role involves collaborating with regional and global Transmission & Distribution teams to support utility and developer clients. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring the timely and budget-compliant delivery of substation designs, while also mentoring junior staff and engaging with industry professionals. The position emphasizes the importance of adapting to the evolving energy landscape and delivering innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

Requirements

  • 5 years of direct Substation design experience with a utility or consulting organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of High Voltage substation components such as Transformers and Circuit Breakers.
  • Prior experience in developing substation designs from conceptual through to IFC drawings.
  • Familiarity with grounding system design and lighting protection designs for substations.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interface directly with utility and developer clients to develop substation design deliverables.
  • Provide engineering overview, expertise, and direction as an independent technical advisor.
  • Mentor team members across North America and globally.
  • Support the sales and proposal preparation process for new contracts.
  • Perform field visits and walk-downs as required for client projects.
