Job description

The Senior Software Engineer role focuses on the security and configuration of the Bloomberg Application Services (BAS) service mesh, which processes approximately 400 million requests per minute. The BAS team is responsible for managing critical infrastructure that authenticates and authorizes millions of requests. This position requires a strong understanding of large-scale distributed systems and network security. The engineer will work on projects that enhance the functionality and security of the service mesh, impacting nearly every engineer at Bloomberg.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of total programming experience with at least 1+ year of relevant experience in C++
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field of study or equivalent work experience
  • An understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, multi-threading, and algorithms
  • Experience with network security such as mTLS and/or experience in cloud architectures, Kubernetes, and service meshes
  • An aptitude for analytical problem solving

Responsibilities

  • Work on the security and configuration of the BAS service mesh
  • Improve integration with Bloomberg’s internal cloud computing platform and open-source software like Istio/Envoy
  • Build tools for service providers and platform owners to gain better visibility into their services
  • Stay updated on new technologies in network security and service meshes
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with team members
