Job description

The Member of Technical Staff - Data Engineer role at Microsoft AI focuses on building critical data pipelines for the Copilot systems. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and a collaborative spirit to work with various teams, including AI researchers and application engineers. The Data Platform Engineering team is dedicated to enhancing human-AI interactions through data processing and model fine-tuning. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work OR Master's Degree in the same fields AND 4+ years of experience OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of technical engineering experience building data processing applications with coding in languages such as Python, Java, Spark, SQL.
  • Experience working with the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, Kafka, NoSQL, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience with data governance, data compliance, and/or data security.
  • 2+ years of experience building scalable services on public cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • 2+ years of experience building distributed systems at scale.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Dedication to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Interest in learning new technologies and staying updated with industry trends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable data pipelines for sourcing, transforming, and publishing data assets for AI use cases.
  • Collaborate with other platform, infrastructure, and application engineers as well as AI researchers.
  • Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Find paths to overcome roadblocks and deliver work quickly and iteratively.
  • Work in a fast-paced, design-driven product development cycle.
