Job description

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join the Azure Silver and Sovereign Team, focusing on the Azure Data Transfer (ADT) team. This role involves applying SRE principles to ensure the reliability and performance of mission-critical distributed systems. The engineer will work on improving service health, building automation, and optimizing data transfer in highly regulated environments. The position emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and adherence to security policies.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with 2+ years of technical experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Candidates must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship is required due to legal restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability architecture and end-to-end service understanding for distributed systems at scale.
  • Define and improve service health via SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and operational readiness criteria.
  • Drive cross-team reliability reviews and recommend design changes and safe rollout strategies.
  • Implement reliable, scalable, and high-performance changes using SRE practices.
  • Leverage telemetry and production signals to identify reliability risks and address root causes.
  • Build and improve observability metrics, logs, and alerts to support incident response.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead response for complex, high-impact incidents.
  • Apply secure-by-design and compliance requirements to operations and automation.

Benefits

  • Employees at Microsoft are often offered comprehensive, “world-class” benefits—including health and mental-wellness programs, competitive pay with bonuses and stock awards, and retirement/savings options. Time-off and flexibility are common, with generous vacation and holidays, parental and caregiver leave, and flexible work schedules, alongside learning support, employee resource groups, product discounts, and matching-gifts/volunteering programs. Specific benefits can vary by region.
