Job description

As a Metrology Engineer at Terafab, you will design and implement precision measurement systems that ensure process control and yield in semiconductor fabrication. Your role involves characterizing nanoscale features and developing metrology strategies for new materials and architectures, directly impacting the accuracy and scalability of Tesla's custom silicon.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of metrology engineering experience in a leading-edge semiconductor fab
  • Experience with multiple metrology platforms including CD-SEM, OCD, ellipsometry, scatterometry, X-ray, and in-line metrology systems
  • Experience driving closed-loop process control via metrology feedback
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or R for data analysis, automation, and visualization
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques for defect classification and prediction modeling
  • Experience with equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) and statistical process control (SPC)

Responsibilities

  • Own the inline metrology strategy across all critical layers: CD, overlay, film thickness, defect density, and electrical continuity
  • Develop, qualify, and optimize metrology processes for critical process steps
  • Spearhead the qualification of new metrology tools during fab setup and equipment installation
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and process engineers to resolve tool performance issues
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret metrology data using statistical tools to detect process drifts
  • Correlate metrology results with process and test data to identify root causes of non-conformance
  • Lead physical failure analysis including FIB/SEM cross-sections and TEM sample preparation

Benefits

  • Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
