JobsNVH Engineer, Electrical Motor
Job description
The NVH Test Engineer role at Tesla focuses on testing and validating noise, vibration, and harshness for power electronics and motors within vehicle powertrains. The position involves collaboration with design and firmware teams to enhance acoustic performance while balancing cost and complexity. This role is critical for improving vehicle quality through continuous feedback and design improvements.
Requirements
- Expertise in motor and power electronics design for acoustic noise
- Experience in physical testing for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in complex systems such as rail, aerospace, or energy
- Hands-on experience with large data acquisition using Siemens TestLab or similar tools
- Experience with MATLAB or Python for automation or computation
- Experience with CAN or test automation
- Ability to interpret simulation and test data for actionable insights
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, Physics, or equivalent experience
Responsibilities
- Perform noise and vibration testing on components for motors and power electronics, including vehicle powertrain and thermal systems
- Conduct stationary and driving vehicle tests to validate performance, design changes, and firmware tuning
- Provide feedback to design teams on countermeasures and improvements for component design and firmware/controls related to NVH
- Design and maintain a noise attributes standard for power electronics across all vehicle design groups
- Validate and document detailed information on firmware logic for power electronics-related noise and its sensitivities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing noise while optimizing cost, mass, and complexity in thermal systems and vehicle architecture
- Contextualize and interpret test data and CAE simulation risks in relation to real-world psychoacoustic performance
Benefits
- Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
