Job description

Tesla is seeking an Equipment Safety Engineer to join their Environmental Health, Safety, and Security team. This role involves providing technical expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and ensuring safety in factory designs, collaborating with various teams to integrate safety from design to production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in safety engineering, with experience in AI, robotics, or large-scale manufacturing projects preferred
  • Proficiency with software for safety validation and design processes
  • Advanced understanding of safety systems relevant to AI, robotics, vehicle design, and manufacturing automation
  • Ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills to convey safety principles across different teams
  • Willingness to travel for prototype testing and manufacturing commissioning

Responsibilities

  • Lead Machine Safety design and manufacturing across Vehicle, Energy, and AI products
  • Perform technical analyses on designs for automation, robots, and manufacturing equipment
  • Utilize ANSI, ISO, RIA, NFPA, IBC, OSHA standards to ensure compliance
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Partner with internal subject matter experts to review and improve safety in designs
  • Conduct safety training for New Programs
  • Contribute to Tesla's Standards for hardware and software for future equipment development
