Job description

Tesla is seeking a detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to support the Automation Development Team in designing and building custom automation and robotic equipment. The role involves overseeing projects from concept to installation, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of experience in electrical design for custom automation using EPLAN Electric P8 or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong knowledge of electrical concepts and best practices, including three phase power distribution, control logic, and industrial networking protocols
  • Hands-on experience working with and troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of industrial automation hardware, including PLC hardware (Siemens and Allen-Bradley), VFDs and servomotors, DC control circuits, I/O and field instrumentation, and pneumatic valves and cylinders
  • Proficiency in using US electrical standards NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, and UL508A
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project manager and other design engineers to develop robust, safe, and efficient electrical designs for industrial equipment
  • Evaluate and select between various forms of industrial control system hardware to meet machine specific requirements
  • Create electrical and pneumatic schematics and bills of materials using EPLAN Electric P8
  • Design custom industrial control panels, including layouts and calculations for loads, heat, and SCCR
  • Manage tight schedules to ensure that control panels and critical commercial parts meet the project build schedule
  • Support assembly and debug operations by providing direction on electrical assembly and troubleshooting issues that arise during build
  • Potential to travel to the Tesla factories to assist with installation and startup
