Job description
Tesla is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and optimize advanced control systems for battery cell manufacturing equipment. The role involves programming and integrating PLCs, robots, and safety systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance manufacturing automation.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong proficiency in process integration and electromechanical/mechatronic systems
- Advanced experience programming industrial controls including Ladder Logic PLCs and Safety PLCs
- HMI/GUI development experience
- Familiarity with fieldbus networks and serial communications
- Hands-on exposure to production machinery and sensors
- Prior experience with manufacturing equipment, especially in battery/EV-related production is highly desired
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to documentation
Responsibilities
- Debug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time, equipment availability, and yield
- Develop robust system architecture and detailed electrical/pneumatic schematics
- Architect, write, and debug clean, structured PLC ladder logic
- Design and implement control-reliable safety systems
- Create intuitive HMI screens for troubleshooting and operator feedback
- Participate in equipment conceptual development
- Lay out NFPA 79 / NEC / UL508A-compliant industrial control panels
- Manage suppliers through specification and design reviews
- Build and commission electrical cabinets and field wiring
- Establish data management networks for product, process, and quality traceability
