Job description

The Sr. Staff Engineer will play a critical role in the Identity organization at Uber, which manages core identity functions for millions of users globally. This position focuses on long-range architectural stewardship, ensuring the identity architecture can adapt to future trends without extensive rewrites. The engineer will also serve as a bridge between Engineering, Product, and Legal/Compliance, translating complex regulatory requirements into technical solutions. Additionally, the role emphasizes operational excellence, driving reliability and performance for systems handling high volumes of requests.

Requirements

  • BS or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
  • 12+ years of full-time Software Engineering work experience.
  • Experience designing and building large scale distributed systems.
  • Experience launching and migrating a large backend platform to hundreds of millions of users.
  • Experience with customer-facing Platforms/SaaS serving hundreds of millions of customers.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate shifts in the identity landscape to ensure architectural adaptability.
  • Elevate the organization by defining innovative solutions like GenAI-driven fraud detection patterns.
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements into elegant technical solutions.
  • Drive reliability and performance standards for systems handling hundreds of thousands of requests per second.
