The Sr. Staff Engineer and Tech Lead will join Uber's Mobility Matching & Segmentation organization, focusing on architecting and evolving ML-powered systems for real-time rider-driver matching and marketplace segmentation. This role involves tackling complex optimization and systems problems, directly impacting millions of users. The engineer will lead technical direction, collaborate with various teams, and mentor other engineers while driving improvements in system performance and reliability. The position requires a strong background in machine learning, distributed systems, and real-time decision-making.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8-10+ years of professional software development experience in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of backend development and distributed systems.
• Experience with ML systems, optimization algorithms, or real-time decision systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-team technical initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to mentor and elevate other engineers.

• Design, develop, and deploy ML and optimization systems for high-impact business problems.
• Lead projects that span across organizations with significant cross-org dependencies.
• Collaborate closely with Scientists, Product Managers, and peer engineering teams.
• Drive ongoing improvements in system reliability, performance, scalability, and efficiency.
• Mentor and grow engineers across the organization, fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
• Contribute to the design and evolution of Uber's large-scale experimentation infrastructure.
• Deliver and review technical designs, code, and documentation to a high standard.
