The Media Platform team at Uber is responsible for building a unified backend platform that supports media ingestion, processing, intelligence, and delivery for the Safety ecosystem. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will influence the architecture and technical direction of systems that enhance rider and driver safety. Your work will involve real-time streaming and media processing, ensuring compliance and scalability. This role requires collaboration with various teams to create impactful products that prioritize safety and privacy.
Requirements
- 10+ years of backend engineering experience with expertise in distributed systems and large-scale service architecture.
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Go or Java.
- Experience in building high-availability microservices.
- Proven experience designing and operating systems that handle high throughput, low latency, and strict reliability requirements.
Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve Uber’s Media Platform backend systems for media ingestion, processing, storage, and delivery.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives to improve reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, and compliance of media systems.
- Define and enforce platform standards for performance, privacy, retention, and operational excellence.
- Partner with Safety, Legal, and Product teams to translate complex requirements into scalable platform capabilities.
- Mentor senior engineers and act as a technical multiplier across the organization.
