Job description

The Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE) role at Amazon involves working in a dynamic environment to support the operations of existing data centers in the northern Virginia region. The CxE will be part of a creative team focused on optimizing system performance and ensuring compliance with engineering designs. This position requires collaboration with vendors, contractors, and various teams to oversee the commissioning of critical infrastructure systems. The role emphasizes continuous improvement and effective communication to enhance the commissioning program.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or 5 years of relevant discipline work experience
  • High technical competency in mechanical, electrical, or control systems utilized in critical infrastructures
  • Ability to understand design concepts by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint or similar tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in high-stress environments

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure
  • Review as-built documents and equipment submittals for accuracy
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT) when applicable and manage third-party commissioning vendors
  • Audit Cx vendors' activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements
  • Report commissioning progress and metrics to the Regional Commissioning Manager
  • Coordinate site activities in operational data centers and prioritize tasks
  • Communicate lessons learned to peers and participate in initiatives for program improvement
