Job description

The Optical Network Engineer will play a crucial role in architecting, designing, operating, and building one of the world's largest optical networks within Amazon Web Services. This position involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks. The engineer will lead the development of innovative optical solutions to meet Amazon's growing capacity requirements. This role also emphasizes operational excellence and the delivery of high-quality services to AWS customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of expertise in optics and optical communications.
  • 1+ years of experience with optical systems, optical transceivers, and transmission systems.
  • 1+ years of experience developing test scripts for optics validation and characterization.
  • PhD or Masters preferred.
  • Expertise in hardware and systems design and development.
  • Expertise in debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Experience writing software that controls network routing functions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to evaluate new hardware and software features and develop implementation plans.
  • Define and develop test plans for Optical Modules in collaboration with vendors and manufacturers.
  • Automate optical test plans and qualify optical modules.
  • Work with the network operations team to identify operational issues and improve quality and RMA processes.
  • Develop and track metrics around data collected from the production fleet.
