Job description

As a Senior Security Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will lead the design, development, and implementation of security features that protect global infrastructure and customer data. The Identity Security team focuses on reducing risks in AWS services by collaborating with software engineers to prevent security issues during the design and development phases. This role requires a combination of deep security expertise and advanced software engineering skills to build scalable security systems. You will also mentor junior engineers and drive security best practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of non-internship background in troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating complex tasks using command line tools.
  • 5+ years of work experience in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans.
  • 4+ years of scripting, programming, and security code review experience in common programming languages.
  • Knowledge of at least two programming languages such as Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex security initiatives that impact organization-wide security posture.
  • Build automated security testing frameworks.
  • Implement security fixes in Java, Python, or other relevant languages.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and establish security engineering best practices.
  • Partner with software development teams to build security controls directly into the development lifecycle.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
